Is it true that you can go to where the cruises depart and buy a ticket really cheap?

Posted on April 30th, 2009 by admin in Galveston Cruise ships

I have heard that you can go down to Galveston Texas and get on one of the cruise ship for a great discounted price. Is this really true?

You can not buy a cruise on the day of sailing but you can book 24 hours in advance. This will sometimes cause problems at embarkation because the ship will sometimes print the manifest the day before for the check in agents and the pier system computers may not get updates. It takes a few extra minutes to confirm that indeed you're on the manifest but then you're golden. As far as specials to "locals" to fill the ship, it doesn't happen that way in San Francisco.

Beach house or park wedding in Galveston?

Posted on April 30th, 2009 by admin in Moody Gardens

We are looking to have our wedding in Galveston. I know a beach house would be ideal to have the cerimony by the water and the reception at the main house, outside. Here's the issue… i know that most places won't allow weddings. Do you know of any place that does?

Also we like Fort Travis park, do you know if they offer a rental of the park. Also will they allow wine to be served if they do.

Any help works… we do not want moody gardens or anything indoors or at a hotel.

This Package Includes:
• Assistance in planning your ceremony – from the day you book your wedding – until your Wedding Day
• Romantic wedding ceremony
• A non-denominational marriage officiant
• Romantic ceremony music (recorded)
• An elegant bouquet for the bride
• A matching boutonniere for the groom
• A small wedding cake
• A bottle of champagne or cider
• Photography Service for the ceremony

Beach Location /$1195.00
Garden Terrace/$1395.00

is there anyone that lives on galveston island that cant go back home after hurricane ike?

Posted on April 30th, 2009 by admin in Galveston restaurants

yea, so we evacuated at the last minute to a hotel in houston. we live in galveston and we cant go back. this hotel is $200 a night and the only place here to eat is the restaurant downstairs and that’s about $70 a meal for the family. so yea, i want to go home but they are saying that we cant. we cant stay here, we paid for tonight so tomorrow we will be on the streets if we cant go home =( so i mean what do we do? i cant get ah-old of the red cross, or salvation army or anyone. and when i did they said they cant help us. i live on the seawall so i mean im not even sure if my apartment is still there or not. im sure it is, and everything there is fine but you never know. but yea, can someone help me? i dont know what do do…someone please tell me what i should do.

From what I’ve just seen on fox news Galveston Island is just about leveled after Ike, right now they are still trying to get people who decided to stay OUT not allow anyone IN. I’m pretty sure the news said exactly that..you can get OUT but not IN.
Sounds to me like you may be experiencing some price gouging, paying $200 a night for a room. I believe you should contact the Mayor where you are or the City council and tell them what’s going on..meantime I would be out today looking around for some place cheaper, or a shelter where you and your family can stay.
I also assume you drove your vehicle to Houston..get in the car and search for a Denny’s or even McDonald’s to eat in.
Sorry for your predicament, hope all turns out well for you.

How to get to Galveston Island, Texas?

Posted on April 30th, 2009 by admin in Galveston island

How do you cross from the mainland to Galveston Island, Texas if you do not want to drive on the I-45 Galveston causeway and you are coming to Galveston from Houston, I-45?
Port Bolivar is not the answer.
Didn't there use to be a ferry from the Houston (mainland) side near HWY 3 at the coast area?
Ok to make it easier.. in the 60-80's was there ever an alternate route (other than Galveston Causeway) from the mainland to the island heading in from Houston/Clear Lake?
Thank you all for you answers but was there or is there an alternate from this location?

Okay, let's get our answers straightened out.

Other than I45 Causeway, the only other land routes are the SanLuis Pass bridge from the Freeport/Surfside area and the Bolivar Peninsula ferry from the Bolivar area.

You can always fly in or charter a boat.

The most direct route is the I45 Causeway.

From East side of Houston, I10 to Winnie, 124 to High Island, and 87 from there to the ferry is not too bad.

From Southwest Houston, 288 to Freeport, Coastal Highway to Galveston isn't bad.

If you are looking to avoid bridges, you can't. It's an island.

If you are worried about the construction on the new Causeway, don't. It's not very bad.

Any route other than I45 will take you miles out of the way and cost you more in time. The drive from Freeport is okay but the ferry from Bolivar can sometimes have a wait, usually long during summer.

Preferably on a ship that is not Ecstasy and that is not going to Cozumel.
