Galveston Texas hurricane of 1900?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin in Uncategorized

How did most die in that hurricane?
What were the long term consequences that resulted because of that hurricane?
How much did it cost to rebuild?

thank you, if you could, site sources other than wikipedia.

Storm surge is what usually kills the most people. A huge tide comes in with the wall of the eye, driven by the winds associated with the wall, and then goes ripping back out as the winds reverse on the back wall of the eye.

I put the words "Galveston Hurricane" into the Y’ Search _____ Web Search box at the top of this page, and got over 600,000 links, including this one:

Has anyone cruised on Carnival Ecstasy on 12/31?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin in Galveston Cruise ships

We’re cruising on 12/31/09 to Cozumel. It’ll be our first cruise (my wife and I, along with our 5 year-old son). My wife doesn’t know (it’ll be a surprise for our 9th Anniversary). I want to know what the weather is like during this time and what to expect from the New Year’s eve at sea in a ship. Maybe you haven’t traveled during this time but have traveled around the last 2 weeks of December and the first two weeks of January, which I assume the weather wouldn’t be too different. Any feedback is appreciated.

We sailed the Ecstasy last year about mid-December.

There were not even any Christmas decorations on board.

One heads up about sailing out of Galveston in December….Fog.

The ship will be delay docking and departing if there is fog. If there is fog, don’t park your car until you know the boarding process is underway. You will be stuck in the cruise terminal w/little comfort items like water, food or even chairs.

We were scheduled to depart at 4:00 pm. They did not dock the ship until about 8:00 pm at night and we were not able to board until midnight.

Take along light jackets. It is very windy on the decks in December.

It was nice in Mexico but a bit cool while you are sailing.

We recommend Lighthouse Parking instead of parking at the cruise terminal. It is more economical plus your party does not have to separate while the driver takes the car to the parking lot and returns via shuttle. Make an advance reservation at: http://lighthouseparking.org/ Make sure you make an advance reservation. They were turning people away on our last cruise.

Take plenty of $1, 5 and 10 in US dollars for shopping in the open air markets, taxis and tipping shore excursion personnel.

carnival conquest cruise? i’m 15?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin in Galveston Cruise ships

i’m going on a cruise tomorrow. i’m going on the carnival conquest.
i just want to know some info about it. i’m 15 years old and i’m going with my friend. so like will it be fun for our age? and how was club o2?
can someone just like tell me all about it please?

im 15 and ive been on 8 cruises all on carnival. Itll be really fun especially since its your first cruise. Club O2 is really only as fun as the people in it, so check it out the first few days and if you dont like it just dont go. Some fun things you might want to do, just ride the glass elevator for a while and talk to people(sounds lame but you can meet some interesting people), another fun thing to do is mess with the drunks last cruise me and the people i was hanging out with met this one lady so we made her dress up and take a bunch of pictures with us. uh yeah that about it so just have fun

to the other girl the liberty has been my favorite ship, it was the biggest and had the coolest stuff like the outdoor movies every night

What is the best cruise line you have been on?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin in Galveston Cruise ships

I would like to know how nice the ship is……
I have been on the Royal Caribbean the ship is called the voyagers of the seas if i spelled that correctly

Royal Caribbean is my favorite line and I have been on two of the ships,
Sovereign of the Seas – twice – and Grandeur of the Seas once. Have
another cruise booked on Grandeur. The newer ships from Royal are
actually much larger but I like Royal Caribbean. I have been on the
Disney Wonder and it is nice, but overall I prefer RCL over Carnival,
Disney, and Premier (no longer in operation). If you are wanting to go
on another cruise, try the Freedom of the Seas – the largest at this time.

Garden of Deceit (CD)

Posted on September 28th, 2009 by admin in Moody Gardens

Garden of Deceit (CD)

Indie Rock CD – Having made a good mark with their first album, Palodine return on Garden of Deceit with another strong effort; if they are still reaching for a full sound of their own, they are well on their way to accomplishing that. Part of it can be heard in Katrina Whitney’s singing, sounding darker and stronger than before, a passionate take on country/soul refracted through the amplified blast and involved arrangements provided by Michael Aryn and Whitney. It’s not quite Dusty Springfield goes to hell, say, but the opening “Redwinged Blackbird” alone is the kind of song that upends all the staid alt-country conventions in favor of a dark throb that’s closer to Earth than anything else. The thanks the band give to Low in their credits is an indicator as well, but instead of the preternatural control familiar from the Minnesota band’s work, Palodine here almost play to a wide stage backdrop, their Walkabouts-derived theatricality given a strong new focus all their own. Nearly every song sounds like a drama (or if one prefers, a melodrama) in miniature, with Aryn’s guitar drive, alternately a blast and an understated pace, and Whitney’s commanding-then-cool singing driving things forward. But for all that the songs retain their individual identity rather than melting into each other; the end-on-a-tense-note cut of “Sweet Mouth, Black Heart” sounds little like the rolling shuffle of “Woman of Cain,” especially with Whitney’s sudden clipped calls signaling when Aryn cranks the volume in a dark strut. With other highlights like “A Dozen Stones” (with Aryn’s solo a suddenly thrilling delight, a moment of lightness that definitely casts shadows) and the concluding “Magdalene,” as moody but vibrant an album ender as one could hope to, to its credit, Garden of Deceit is Palodine’s best moment yet and promises much for next time. – Garden of Deceit (CD)

does anyone know the cost of alcoholic beverages on board carnival cruise ships?

Posted on September 26th, 2009 by admin in Galveston Cruise ships

im trying to budget for my vacation on board carnival ecstasy. i want to find out how much the drinks cost (i.e. beer, wells, mixed)

Expensive. 4.86 for domestic beers including taxes.

I’ve been on quite a few carnival cruises & we started bringing alcohol with us in our suitcases. We use the trashcan in the room as an ice tub to keep it cold. The maid service even refilled it twice everyday with ice for us!! Bring liquor that mixes well with fruity juices that are free or buy a soft drink card. A flask is also helpful so you don’t have to go back to your room each time you want to mix a drink!
