we are going on a cruise on the 23rd to mexico from galveston, TX on the carnival ecstasy. anything we?

need to know?
what is the cheapest parking lot there?
which excursions are the best?
when do the shows at night start because we have late dining…

My suggestion would be to stay at Harbor House (a fun little 42 room inn with free continental breakfast) the night before you cruise, it is right by the Cruise Terminal and we loved being able to look out our window in the morning and watch the Cruise Ships pull into the terminal. Also you can park your car there while you are on your cruise for $20 (+$10 the night you are there), which is about $10-$30 cheaper than the others. The down side is there is no shuttle to the terminal so someone will have to stay with the luggage while the other parks the car and walks to the terminal (about a 5 minute walk or so… not bad). We were in room 206 I believe, great view, but ask for room 306 so you are not right above the restaurant. Also you don’t have the rush of getting to the cruise ship the day of (unless you live close to Galveston.)

Despite what your brochure or documents say, you can usually board an hour or two before it tells you too, this is nice because there are not as many people on the ship and you escape most of the lines.

They run the production shows twice… once for guest before dinner (for people on late seating like you) then one for people after dinner (when you will be eating).

In Cozumel there are many things to do, there are many great dolphin experiences, they are pricey but it is truly an amazing experience that I recommend if you can afford it. Try to get the one where you ride on the dolphins!!!

Have not been to Progresso so I can’t help you there.

Have a wonderful cruise and enjoy the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake in the dining room. YUM!! Our favorite!!

Cruise Tips for Carnival Cruises from Galveston

Parking at the Port of Galveston
Carnival has 2 secure parking lots at the port. You need to drop off your luggage before parking as the shuttles do not accommodate luggage. When you return it is better for one person to get the car and then pick up the rest of your traveling companions with the luggage. Otherwise you may have to wait a while for a shuttle that can accommodate your luggage. The parking rates are $45 for a 4-night cruise, $50 for a 5-night cruise and $70 for a 7-night cruise. Payment is by cash, Visa or Mastercard only. You can pre-pay for parking on the Port of Galveston’s web site and save $5 off the cost of your parking. (updated January 2010)

Other Parking options for the Port of Galveston
If you are arriving by car the night before your cruise, several of the hotels in the area may let you leave your car in their lot while you cruise. However, you will need to stay at least one night before your cruise – look for Park ‘n Stay rates advertised by the hotel. These hotels usually have a shuttle to take you to and from the cruise port. (updated October 2009)

Boarding Time for Carnival Cruises out of Galveston
Boarding for your Carnival cruise starts at 12:30 PM at the Port of Galveston. If possible get there early to avoid the lines. You must be checked-in at least 90 minutes prior to the scheduled cruise departure. (updated December 2009)
