Thank you for flying Southwest Airlines we hope to see u again soon….lol im soon to be a Southwest Airlines pilot and that was a pretty awesome job..see in this situation when touchdown occurred they didnt know about a problem with the landing gear until about 10 seconds afterwards and because no mayday was caused during the air the fire department wasnt ready

This wasn’t a pre planned emergency ie: the pilots had not declared a Mayday prior to landing -therfore the fire crews were not on the tarmac to meet them – they arrived in 3minutes which is remarkably fast from standown.

As for the evacuation there probably were no indications in tha cabin that there was a fire. The fa’s would be waiting for command from flight crew who were busy running down the mandatory evacuation checklists -shutting down the engines, extending the flaps etc

Hi there, All i have to say is what the was going on about the Fire department. After 3 minutes they show up after watching the fire going on. And the evac was at the same time also man whoever took that decision to my knowledge is not a great decision maker…

WHATEVER! I’m sorry that you are sooooo wrong in your comment but I would just as soon fly Southwest Airlines than any of the other ones you mentioned. I know for a FACT that SWA, JBLU, and Frontier have excellent maintenance programs. Besides, your comment is moot due to the fact that Southwest Airlines has posted a PROFIT for more than 3 and a half DECADES. Not enough money my !

I’m an FA and this to me looks like a text book evacuation

In a non catastrophic situation like this the flight attendants would not initiate an evacuation – the pilots would be running through the mandatory emergency checklists – shutting down the engines etc – if you notice at 2.31 the flaps are extended fully and the speed breaks snap back to the wing – this is to enable passengers on the overwing exits (without slides) to get to the ground without injury.

Me too! So flipping scary. I was all the way up front, directly across from the screaming baby (who, incidentally, calmed down and even laughed while we were out in the grass waiting for the busses to come get us.) I stayed at the Hilton that night because I didn’t have my purse, ID, boarding pass – anything – to continue traveling. The SWA lady told us to eat and drink whatever we wanted so of course I went STRAIGHT to the bar. My tab was like $25 and they made me pay for it after all. Nice huh
