September 12 – Havana Daydreamin Clear Lake
The first annual Havana Daydreamin event was held in the ballroom at the Lakewood Yacht Club. Stepping back in time to a period of gambling, excitement and wonderful music, the theme was 1950s Cuba.
Gentlemen donned in their straw hats and Guevara shirts while the ladies wore the colorful Latin flair of Cuba. From adorable costumes of Havana Cabana to an updated Carmen Miranda the theme was in full swing.
The rhythmic Latin music was by Niho and the dance exhibitions were performed by the Strictly Street Salsa group and Latin Dance Factory.
Listen in, as Talk of the Bay captures some of the fun and the reason this evening of fun was put together.

This solider will also have the opportunity to earn a 4 year degree with the scholarship fund. Did I say these two teams are amazing?
The veteran selected did not know that he was about to receive this wonderful opportunity until it was announced at the BABA General Meeting. Emotional, to say the least! Exciting, absolutely! What a wonderful event to be witness to.
Listen in as Talk of the Bay, talks with Deborah, Gail, and Corporal Donny Daughenbaugh and his wife Sarah.
Editors Note:
While doing a tour of duty in Iraq, Corporal Daughenbaugh was on a routine patrol at a road block. While searching the inside of a car he was shot in the face. The bullet lodged in his skull very close to the nerves. Doctors decided that it was to dangerous to attempt to remove the bullet.
After receiving the home from BABA, Donnys first words, while looking straight as his wife, were I love you.
The suffering that Donny endures has not stopped him from moving forward; a loving husband, a family man, an American, a proud Marine, the first Sentinel of the bay area.

September 8 Revival & Reflections Galveston
The community of Galveston pulled together with citizens, friends and neighbors to reflect on both the storm of 1900 and Ike of 2008.
The first storm killed thousands of Galvestonians as the Gulf washed over the island. The toll was unimaginable. Out of that tragedy, came the seawall; a concrete barrier that protects Galveston from Gulf waters. Fortunately, the seawall has not been tested often but on September 13, 2008 it was. Hurricane Ike came rolling into Galveston and certainly created devastation, havoc and damage. However, because of the seawall Galveston was spared from the tragedy that could have been. It is to their forefathers, the citys leaders more than 100 years ago that Galveston owes thanks. It is something to reflect on.
To help the community come together, in a very unique way, there is now an Ofrenda that sits on the seawall where citizens may bring offerings to the Gulf of Mexico. An Ofrenda is an exhibit hand made of metal, in the form a wave-like structure, designed to showcase individual offerings. An integral part of the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) this offers an opportunity to grieve and lay offerings.
Listen in to Talk of the Bay as we share this day with Justin Owens, making his offering and Roshelle Gaskins of the Galveston Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Year Round – A Glimpse of Puerto Vallarta Jalisco, Mexico
In years gone by, Puerto Vallarta was a small fishing village. Now, it is one of the most popular travel destinations in the Mexican Riviera. Forming the coast line around the Banderas Bay (Bay of Flags) Puerto Vallarta offers every water sport you can think of, some of the best seafood Ive eaten, sun, sand and wonderful memories.
One popular destination for snorkeling and SCUBA diving, in the Banderas Bay, is Islas Marietas. Three small islands off the main coast about 90 minutes out by boat.
We also took a short bus trip along the coast line and stopped at a Chicos Paradise. A great place to take a quick dip but what caught my attention was the young diver jumping from the rocks high above the waterblindfolded. I cringed each time he climbed up to the top of the rock and put his blindfold onenough said, Ill let you watch the video; still cringing here.
We also had the opportunity to eat at many local restaurants. Our favorite was Ah Caramba, a restaurant bar & terrace. With a beautiful view overlooking Banderas Bay, musicians to serenade guests, absolutely wonderful food and of course fabulous margaritas! This is a must do eatery; go early, watch the sunset and enjoy. Just tell the cab driver where you want to go, no problem.
And if you would like a taste of the Mayan culture try an evening at the Rhythms of the Night. Primal, mystical and very dreamlike, Mayan music floats through this jungle cove as talented dancers perform for a captive audience. After the show, a wonderful dinner served under the stars. Photography is very limited here so enjoy the tidbit that we got. Access to this hidden gem is by boat only.
Listen in to Talk of the Bay, as we traveled around Puerto Vallarta.
