February 20 Clear Creek Clean Up Clear Lake Area
The main waterway of Clear Creek provides recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, birding, and wildlife observation. In the lower reaches of the Creek, the estuarine habitats serve as nurseries for species such as menhaden, shrimp, and blue crab. Throughout the watershed, migratory birds and Gulf Coast waterfowl find fertile feeding grounds. Healthy estuaries support the success of commercial and recreational fishing within Galveston Bay, one of our nations most productive bays for shrimp and oyster.
Listen in to Talk of the Bay as Rex Ward, the Keeper of the Creek, and Lloyd Thornton tell us what the status is of Clear Creek for this years cleanup.
Every weekend in January and February Rex Ward with the help of his voluntary board of directors organize grassroots volunteers and begin cleaning the creek from Hwy 2351 to Galveston Bay. The Clear Creek Clean Up is the culminating event scheduled this Saturday. To volunteer check out their website www.ClearCreekCleanup.org or call 281-910-8774
