From barley to brewing everything you wanted to know about beer making was available at the BrewMasters Craft Beer Festival in Galveston. In its second year, the festival brought hundreds of beer makers together under one roof.

Brewtopia, a family friendly outdoor beer garden hosted live music, concessions stands and a fun filled play area for kids. Free to the public this venue, under a huge tent, was open the entire weekend. Indoors smaller venues, were scheduled throughout the weekend including Brewlicious, a showcase tasting and the Texas Brewery Tasting Tour. Featured during the festival was The Brewhaha Grand Tastings & Keg Korner; bringing together 400 craft and specialty beers, this granddaddy of an event also offered festivalgoers seminars and wine tastings.

KHOU 11 News Steve Smith Signs Off, 5/1999

On a Friday evening in May 1999, longtime KHOU anchor Steve Smith retired after several decades of anchoring and reporting the news. The tributes prior to this segment were few and far between and low-key with members of the community wishing their best to the departing anchor. This evening, Smith was presented gifts and expressed his final thoughts on the job and some of the people he met along the way.

Hurricane Ike – Galveston, TX pre storm video. Footage from around the Galveston, TX area prior to Hurricane Ike making landfall. Video starts out with evacuation footage heading north during the overnight and southbound lands have no traffic at all. Video continues with footage prior to the landfall of Hurricane Ike around Surfside Beach as the last of the evacuations are taking place as the water is starting to rise and cover several of the roads. Footage of Rats escaping the rising flood waters. Video catalog continues along the seawall with large waves crashing on shore. Footage ends with people being dropped off from a rescue helicopter landing in a shopping mall parking lot to drop off residents who waited too long to drive out of the area and were trapped by rising storm surge waters.

Red Stag | Lone Star Rally | Galveston

The island of Galveston, primarily along the Strand and the Seawall was filled with motorcyclists enjoying a great weekend of fun. Thousands of motorcycles lined the streets, like a sea of shiny chrome and black leather. With approximately 400 thousand riders and friends attending the rally the hotels in Galveston filled quickly and restaurants were at capacity; a great economic benefit to the island. Even more than the financial benefits the promoters of this event were excited about showing that Galveston is still a great place to visit. The rally is also a huge help to the Toys For Tots.

Friday, a very special parade, starting on the Seawall, made its way down to the Strand. Leading this honorary procession was a flag flown at Ground Zero following the September 11th tragedy. A ceremony in honor of the heroes of that day was held on Pier 21. Saturday, thousands of motorcyclists, including the San Jacinto High Rollers, joined Outlaw Dave’s Ranch Ride. This huge procession, escorted by Houston police officers, could be seen for miles rolling down the Gulf Freeway heading to the Lone Star Rally in Galveston. A fund raiser for the Stevens & Pruett’s Ranch for Children and Animals, Outlaw Dave vowed to make this the largest contribution yet.

December 4 | Battle of the Badges 2010 | Galveston

The Galveston Battle Of The Badges is a non-profit charitable event hosted by the Galveston Police Department and Galveston Fire Department. Members of the Galveston Police, Sheriff’s Deputies, Galveston Port Police, EMS, Beach Patrol, will “duke it out” along with the Galveston Firefighters. These warriors fight for honor, glory and most of all for the support of the Galveston Boy’s and Girl’s Club.

Almost doubling in size, this year the Battle of the Badges will be held at the Moody Gardens Convention

Center. Sanctioned by the USA Boxing Association it will include lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight, male and female matches. Eighteen matches are scheduled. Each match will be three one minute rounds with a minute of rest between rounds; this no doubt will bring out some intense matchups.

An “After Party” is planned, directly following the tournament. All ticket holders are invited to enjoy the party and celebrate the rest of the evening with the boxers, friends, family and fans.

All participants are fighting for honor, glory and the benefit of Galveston Youth.
